It's a kudzu timeline...

1876: Japan gives the United States this wonderful gift of kudzu

1930s: Kudzu saves the day. It was put into place to prevent soil erosion.

1940s: Farmers were paid as much as eight dollars an acre to plant kudzu.

1953: United States government puts a halt on the use of kudzu.

1972: The USDA declares kudzu a weed.

Fast facts...

1. Kudzu grows at a rate of about one foot per day during the summer time.

2. It climbs everything in its path.

3. Kudzu is being researched for possible medicinal purposes such as alcoholism.
